Selecting the Manufacturing Route
Glass optics may require grinding and polishing, glass molding or a combination of manufacturing and finishing operations. Process selection depends on the glass type, surface geometry, dimensional requirements, production volume and cost target.
Cold Processing
Grinding and polishing routes can support spherical, aspheric, flat and other custom surfaces when the geometry and production requirements suit the process.
Glass Molding
For suitable designs and quantities, a molding route may be reviewed together with tooling, material behavior, sample evaluation and repeat-production requirements.
Coating, Inspection and Assembly
Surface quality, dimensions, optical performance, coating, handling and assembly requirements should be defined in the project specifications. Acceptance criteria and required records are agreed during the quality review.
